Effective approaches to end worst forms of child labour
This programme will bring change for boys and girls to enjoy their rights to be protected from the worst forms of child labour in Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Ethiopia. The programme refers to the ‘worst forms of child labour’ (WFCL) as defined by Article 3 of ILO Convention No. 182, which occurs when children are sold, trafficked, in debt bondage, serfdom or forced labour, or are forcibly recruited into armed conflict, used in prostitution or pornography, or engaged in hazardous work. By any measure, many WFCL can be classified as modern slavery. The Effective Approaches to End Worst Forms of Child Labour (herein referred to as EAPEC or ‘EPIC’) programme will reduce WFCL through tackling the supply and demand issues (which result in child labour) with a holistic intervention in improving law enforcement, increasing children’s agency, improving livelihoods for conflict-affected families and supporting businesses to improve supply chain due diligence and duty of care from the bottom up
Outcomes: 1. Girls and Boys understand and exercise their rights and agency not to be exploited 2. Girls and boys, including the most vulnerable families will be supported with alternative livelihood opportunities 3. Laws and policies on child labour and modern slavery are implemented and enforced with effective prosecutions 4. Global and national business strengthen supply chain due diligence and capacity building to remove the worst forms of child labour and modern-day slavery from all levels of the supply chain

Girls Education Challenge Transition DRC
The intervention will address quality of teaching and learning in schools as well as social and economic barriers to give girls the best chance of continuing to access, transition and learn through education. Outputs achieved through the project will include enhanced Teacher Professional Development (TPD), support to literacy and numeracy curricula and assessment, improved quality of learning environments, out of school activities to support girls’ wellbeing, and enhanced community structures to address economic and institutional barriers to girls’ and boys’ education. These outputs will ensure marginalised girls in targeted areas can attend school more often, participate in better resourced lessons taught by more competent teachers, have improved safety and wellbeing at school and can learn within community and family environments that are enabling. Achievement of these goals will support delivery against the core GEC Outcomes of improved learning, improved transition rates, and greater sustainability of project successes.
